An Homage to Legacy, Art, and Cultural Memory

Thirty years ago in Shanghai, a collection of extraordinary works was gathered — each piece carrying within it not just pigment on canvas, but echoes of an era, of voices, and of artistry that shaped generations.

Today, MKAU Gallery proudly presents 霸王别姬 | Farewell My Concubine — a rare exhibition that bridges the past and present, featuring masterpieces by the late Lin Ziying and Mo Baoqiang, alongside visionary contemporary artists including Zeng Guangwei, Li Yunliu, Huang Pinsheng, Wei Hong, and Yang Qishan.

This exhibition is more than a viewing; it is an invitation to witness heritage reborn, as brushstrokes once hidden from the world resurface to converse with the present.

The Dialogue of Time

The title “Farewell My Concubine” resonates with both cultural drama and artistic expression — a story of passion, loyalty, and tragedy. Each artwork mirrors this tension: between permanence and impermanence, between the rooted traditions of Chinese artistry and the evolving voices of contemporary masters.

  • Lin Ziying and Mo Baoqiang offer timeless pieces that reflect a vanished moment in Shanghai’s cultural vibrancy.

  • Zeng Guangwei, Li Yunliu, Huang Pinsheng, Wei Hong, and Yang Qishan reinterpret that legacy with bold new visions, continuing the dialogue between memory and modernity.

The Collector’s Rarity

For serious art collectors, this exhibition represents not just beauty but provenance and prestige.
Collected three decades ago in Shanghai, the works of the late masters carry a weight of history that cannot be replicated — an opportunity for acquisition that is both cultural and deeply personal.

By contrast, the contemporary pieces reflect living voices, offering a chance to own art that is at once deeply connected to heritage and yet entirely of our time.

An Invitation to Collect

Select works from Farewell My Concubine are available for private acquisition.
Each piece comes with complete authentication and curatorial insight, ensuring collectors not only acquire art, but also preserve a piece of history, a narrative, a legacy.
